Microsoft Windows™ Applications
|
Although the trend in the IT industry seems to heading towards targeting all applications
for the web, there are times when a solid WIN32™ application is still best.
They generally perform better, are more stable and offer superior UI aspects that
make repetitive data entry tasks faster and more efficient. If you are unfamiliar
with what a WIN32™ is, and example would be Microsoft Office™. It runs
within its own environment on the client workstation as opposed to running inside
of a web browser like Internet Explorer™.
For example, if you have an accounting application that requires lots of "heads
down" data entry, a Windows™ application can be designed in such a way that
little or no interaction with the mouse is required. This may seem trivial at first,
but even if you can save a few seconds per transaction, that time savings multiplied
by thousands of entries starts to become meaningful. Although the web interface
is getting better all the time with advances in AJAX, DHTML and client-side scripting,
it still falls short in many respects.
The drawback of WIN32 applications had been the need to install the application
on every workstation that requires it and all of the time and effort associated
with that. Recent improvements in application deployment however have alleviated
much of the hassle involved in managing Windows™ applications. The ability
to deploy the installation and update files over the web or a LAN has gone a long
way in making this easier through the use of One-Click Publishing™. This allows
the application is updated automatically (if needed) each time it is used. This
helps alleviate the headaches of deployment and versioning to a great extent.
It may be that you already are using a legacy Windows™ application and it
requires some troubleshooting or some new features. We can help you solve any technical
issues you may have or upgrade the application to suit your needs. This helps protect
the investment you have made in the application and minimizes the issues that are
created when you totally replace an application, such as user training and other
issues.
For those of you who may know what language your application was written with, our
core competencies include working with all versions of Visual Basic™, Visual
C++™, and Visual C#™. However, if you have an application written in
Delphi™, Borland Turbo C++™, or Sybase Power Builder™, we would
be glad to take a look at those as well.
In terms of database platforms, we have extensive experience with SQL Server™,
Oracle™, Sybase SQLAnywhere™, PostgreSQL™, and MySQL™. Check
out our database page for more info
on that.
